Everyday Moon Magic : Spells and Rituals for Abundant Living

By Dorothy Morrison
Llewellyn Worldwide, 2004, ISBN 0-7387-0249-8
264 pages

After my first flip through Everyday Moon Magic, I had expected so much more than what Dorothy Morrison actually delivered. I was truly disappointed.

With so much out there about the timing of moon phases in spellwork and ritual, I was delighted when it appeared at an initial glance that this book might go beyond the whens and actually get to the whys of moon magic, potentially looking at moon lore through history and cultures. Sadly this only represented about the first 20 pages of the book, and even this was ultimately no more than an overview with little substance. Even a promising-looking section on lunar gardening that was alluded to in the introduction turned out to be little more than brief instructions for planting and harvesting according to the moon phase and astrological timing.

If you're looking for ideas to do spellwork or ritual according to moon cycles, then this is certainly a great little book to have for reference and inspiration. Morrison shows you how to work with the moon to get the most out of your spellwork, giving you many magical moon ideas, spells, invocations, and affirmations. However, overall, ultimately Everyday Moon Magic is little more than another spell book to add to the collection. Too bad, because there is a lot of very interesting Moon lore that can be explored from a magical perspective, and all too many spellbooks already crowding the shelves.
