Handfasted and Heartjoined: Rituals for Uniting a Couple's Hearts and Lives
By Lady Maeve Rhea
Citadel Press, 200, ISBN 0806521945
$18.95
This book explores all the steps involved in planning a handfasting right from the earliest "Should we even be doing this?" stage. Lady Rhea describes the different complexity levels of rituals: Simple, High Rite, and Rite of Becoming One. Then she takes you through all the tough decisions from time to budgeting to site choice. She walks you through the ritual planning and preparation and how to deal with potential snags. I loved her tips for saving money and her reminders of where NOT to scrimp. She illustrates all the steps clearly with various examples from her own experience.
On the very practical, she includes a fill-in form for your "Handfasting Wish List" in the middle of the book. She later provides an example ritual for each of the three complexity levels mentioned earlier. If you are American, her appendix is an absolute treasure of important info regarding the legality of having a handfasting. She gives advice for each state.
All in all, I very good book for ideas and advice. I enjoyed it as a great springboard for my handfasting planning. As a Canadian, though, the legal information was useless and I had to go on some serious hunting for the legalities in this province.
